Launched in October 2016, The HARBOR Juvenile Assessment Center was originally design to divert youth from the juvenile justice system. While we continue this goal, we quickly realized the importance of serving all youth and families in our community. To more efficiently serve youth and families, HARBOR expanded to 2 sites in October of 2018 and quickly to 4 sites in August of 2020. By expanding, we hope to be accessible to all kids and families in our community. We recognize transportation and location can often add barriers to families reaching accessible supports and we are working to remove barriers.
Services at the HARBOR are voluntary and family-centered, considering each family’s unique needs and wishing concerning treatment and referrals. As of March 2021, the HARBOR has served over 20,000 kids and families.
Former Practicum Student at The Harbor
For the past five years The Harbor has provided mentoring and supervision for students seeking careers in Human Services, Social Work and Criminal Justice. We would like to highlight one of our practicum student’s, Dominic Terry who completed his practicum hours for a degree in Human Services at The Harbor during the Pandemic.
Dominic worked tirelessly with Harbor staff to provide services to the community during a time when families were faced with many medical and mental health challenges.
Dominic Terry received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services from UNLV. He has since enrolled in the Master’s Program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UNLV and has accepted a position with Nevada Department of Health and Human Services as their Youth Suicide Prevention Specialist & Project AWARE which focusses on bringing suicide awareness, prevention, intervention programs and training to Charter & Private schools in Southern Nevada. He will also be working with the Clark County Mental Health Consortium as a representative for Suicide Prevention Sector.
The Harbor is proud to know that they have played a role in Dominic’s education and training which prepared him for this wonderful opportunity. Great Job Dominic! We look forward to your future achievements while you continue promoting wellness and empowerment in our community.
