Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

All assessments and services completed by The Harbor are FREE of charge. We may offer referrals to services that are no-cost, take insurance or have low-cost options as well.

Why is my insurance needed?

There is no cost to a Harbor Assessment, nor will your insurance be billed for services performed by The Harbor Staff. We kindly request insurance information as there are potential programs and referrals that could be of benefit to your family and can be covered by your insurance. Rest assured that no family will be turned away from The Harbor due to lack of insurance or being underinsured.

What can I expect from this program?

Upon your initial visit to The Harbor, your family will undergo a comprehensive 1 ½ to 2 hour evaluation with a skilled team member to pinpoint any issues and to access appropriate resources in our community. After the assessment, your dedicated specialist will offer case management support to facilitate access to necessary services for your family, leading to enhancements in your family’s overall health and wellness.

Will my child have a record?

We collaborate with Law Enforcement and advocate for steering young individuals away from the Juvenile Justice System. If your family seeks assistance from The Harbor without any existing legal involvement, rest assured that there will be no creation of a juvenile record. Nevertheless, should you have inquiries regarding your child’s citation, court paperwork, or record sealing, we can connect you with the appropriate entity.

Does this program affect my child's future?

We aim to make a positive impact on your child’s future. Our objective is to offer your family tailored resources that cater to your unique needs, helping you address and enhance the specific issue that brought your child to The Harbor in the first place.

What services does the Harbor provide?

The Harbor provides a non-clinical assessment aimed at pinpointing the support systems that could prove advantageous for young individuals and their families. We collaborate with external organizations within the community to provide services such as counseling, mentorship, group sessions, recreational programs, and many other opportunities to foster growth and development in the youth and families we serve.

Is The HARBOR a mental health agency that provides counseling?

While we do not offer mental health or counseling services directly, Harbor Staff make referrals to reputable behavioral health care agencies for individuals in need of such services. Our team diligently follows through with referrals by providing comprehensive case management services to guarantee that your family is seamlessly connected with a provider that perfectly aligns with your specific needs. This includes considerations such as accepting your health insurance, being conveniently located, specializing in addressing any behavioral or mental health issues you may be facing, and offering services that are easily accessible in your preferred language.

Do we have to schedule a follow up appointment regarding services?

No, we handle all the necessary legwork on your behalf. In the event that we are unable to arrange the recommended services during your first appointment, we will promptly send out all referrals and the relevant organizations will reach out to you directly to coordinate scheduling.

Does my immigration status matter?

We provide support to all families, regardless of their immigration status. It is crucial for us to have a clear understanding of each family’s immigration status so that we can tailor our assistance and provide the necessary resources accordingly. Understanding immigration status helps us ensure that we are offering the most appropriate and effective support to each family in need.

What is the duration of services provided at the Harbor?

The typical duration of a case is 60 days, nevertheless, we are committed to assisting our families until all their needs are addressed, even if it extends beyond the 60-day mark. Our team will maintain regular communication with the family to track their progress and verify the effectiveness of the recommended resources.
